FAQ's

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to a traveler’s passport.

An eTA is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Most travelers need an eTA to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport, with some exceptions.

You can check if you need an eTA by visiting the official Government of Canada website and using the online tool.

No, an eTA is not required for travel within Canada. It is only needed for entry into Canada by air.

You can apply for an eTA online through the official Government of Canada website. The application process is simple and usually takes just a few minutes to complete.

The cost of an eTA application is CAD $7. You can only apply and pay for one person at a time.

Most applicants receive their eTA approval (via an email) within minutes. However, some requests may take several days to process if additional documents are required.

If you make a mistake on your eTA application, you may need to reapply with the correct information.

Workers and students must meet Canada’s entry requirements, which may include having a valid visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in addition to their work or study permits.

For first-time applicants for study or work permits, visas or eTAs are automatically issued upon approval of the application.

Travelers with existing work or study permits should carry their valid permits, along with a valid passport and any necessary visa documentation.

It is crucial for travelers with existing permits to ensure the validity of their visitor visas to avoid issues when leaving and re-entering Canada.

Travelers requiring an eTA must ensure they travel with the passport that is electronically linked to their eTA when flying to a Canadian airport.

You must present the following documents:

  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate
  • A letter of authorization signed by the parent who is not travelling, containing their address and telephone number, in English or French if possible, and
  • A photocopy of the non-accompanying parent’s signed passport or national identity card

If the parents are separated or divorced, and share custody of the child, the parent travelling with the child should carry copies of the legal custody documents.

If the parents are separated or divorced and one of them has sole custody of the child, the letter of authorization may be signed by that parent only and they should bring a copy of the custody papers.

If one of the child’s parents is deceased, the travelling parent should bring a copy of the death certificate.
